Caring For Bats
The Australian Museum

The Australian Museum briefed us with “How can we design informative but also playful and engaging ‘explainers’ for adult audiences?” and make them care for vulnerable bat species in Australia.

My answer to the brief involved a documentary-style motion graphics video with a narrator explaining fun and interesting facts about the Southern Myotis (aka fishing bats). The contrast between the narrator’s positive tone and the visuals of environmental damage creates a level of satire. This supported by the materiality of found objects and rubbish to create a motion collage animation, added another layer of irony to enhance the climate action message. This kept it visually playful and thought-provoking for adult audiences.
